Elegant Italian desk convertible into sewing machine from the 1950s. The desk through its shapes and lines is very reminiscent of Gio Ponti’s design line. The desk is made by the Vigorelli ( of Pavia) manufactory. The small desk has in the left side five pull-out drawers and the top one has a key. In the right leg we have a door that can be opened by knob with the sewing machine mechanism inside. At the base we find a cast-iron riser that allowed easy movement of the mechanism by foot pedals. The table top rises and through a mechanism retracts inside the desk allowing the sewing machine to be pulled out. Once the top is raised we find another storage compartment that allows the sewing machine to be pulled out. The sewing machine is still intact but the thread mechanism needs to be fixed because it is now worn. Being transformable the desk is excellent both as a writing table but also as a piece of furniture for designer living rooms.
