Beautiful ceramic tea set made by Richard Ginori under the design of Gio Ponti in the 1950s, of fine Italian manufacture. BRANDED.
The set consists of a total of 27 complete pieces, plus two hats for the teapot and sugar bowl.
The set consists of 12 white ceramic cups, very simple, cylindrical in shape with a very sinuous handle edged in gold. The cups also have a gold-coloured rim, as do their saucers, which are round in shape with a gold outline. The colours thus juxtaposed create a candid yet exaggeratedly elegant effect.
There is a milk jug, with a classic pointed spout for measuring the amount of milk to be poured. The base of the milk jug is oval in shape, with a pointed spout but very sinuous in its attachment to the base; the handle also echoes the soft curve of the spout. Of course, it too is all edged in gold.
The teapot is the largest item in the set; it has a tall cylindrical shape, with a much larger handle in proportion to the body of the teapot. The spout is tall, long and narrow at the end, all edged in uniquely elegant gold. Finally, it is crowned with a cap to close the teapot so as not to disperse heat.
The sugar bowl is much more elongated in length, in fact it is more oval and flattened. It is the only element to have two handles to hold it, all edged in gold. It too has a closing cap to protect the sugar.
The saucers are very elegant round, edged in gold.
The glaring element that refers to Gio Ponti is the use of the cameo image: a head in profile of a man, in Greek style, framed by a gold frame with squiggles.
This set is out of the ordinary, suitable for receiving guests with refined elegance.
