Very elegant vintage Chinese coffee table in black lacquered wood, rectangular in shape, inlaid with jade on the top, depicting a scene with village people of the period.
This vintage Chinese coffee table has five retractable legs. Lacquered furniture was mostly found in palaces, temples and palaces of the powerful. The technique used to produce this table is “luo-tien” inlaid with mother of pearl. The Chinese are fond of inlaid or carved mother of pearl furniture. Besides pearl and enamel, there are also inlaid jade, colored amber and various precious stones. The beautiful motifs of this vintage Chinese coffee table depict country scenes in which there are stylized characters, birds, flowers and leaves.
